Unsettled Summer Paddling

After a fine week of weather passed the winds picked up again for the weekend. After all other hopes for a decent paddle were scrapped I met up with John, Chris, Paul, Sean and Gareth for a short trip from The Knap Barry to Sully. Winds forecast westerly force 4-5 and standing up on the top of the beach waiting for a few others to turn up it felt like winter.
We got on the water and with the wind on our backs we had a good following sea pushing us along. No sooner than we were in our boats we were back out again. John wasnt happy with the conditions which is understandable, it wasnt exactly a summers day out there. So Chris decided to keep John company and do a little rough water practice in the safety of the bay.
The rest of us were back on our way toward Sully. The aim was to reach Sully Island but in this wind it really wasnt worth the extra effort as we still had to paddle back.
We stopped off for a short break near Sully sailing club before making our way back into a strong headwind. Progress was slow and hard.
We took short respite behind each headland before setting off again into the wind.
Nells Point was interesting as usual.
I was wetting my new paddles today, my Celtic 750s, a re-branding by Lendal.
We opted for an easier landing a on the sheltered side of Cold Knap Head with a short walk to get the vans. Chris and John were still around to give us helping hand with the boats. Nice to get on the water with some more new faces but hopefully the weather and scenery will be a bit better next time we meet. Cheers for the company guys.
