Design 2089 Dora IV

Dora was built of aluminum by Palmer Johnson of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She was launched in 1972. Designed to be an ocean racing yacht, she has had numerous owners, modifications and refits through the years.

She is best known or has been made famous by the infamous Fastnet Race of 1979, where she was sailed to victory by Ted Turner. In that race 303 yachts crossed the starting line but in horrific gale force winds of over 60 knots and towering waves (force 11) 69 yachts withdrew and 23 sank or were abandoned. 15 sailors died in that race.

The boat has been renamed War Baby and is undergoing a major restoration in Holland.
